About CRCs

The CRC Program is a Commonwealth Government initiative which aims to 'change the research culture' of Australia. Government funds are matched by industry support in a collaborative program that strengthens links between industry, research organisations and educational institutions.

"The Cooperative Research Centres, generally known as CRCs, bring together researchers from universities, CSIRO and other government laboratories, and private industry or public sector agencies, in long-term collaborative arrangements which support research and development and education activities that achieve real outcomes of national economic and social significance."

The Program bridges academic, government and corporate cultures so that research can be planned, carried out and commercialised for the benefit of the Australian community.

It began in 1990 and has successfully increased the efficiency and quality of research in Australia while addressing specific research priorities.

There are currently over 50 CRCs in Australia, covering medical science & technology, manufacturing technology, mining & energy, agricultural and rural-based manufacturing, environment & tourism, and information & communications technology.
